Starting A Wellness Revolution

by Amy Nelson May 23, 2014

A revolution… is that necessary?  Yes, I believe it is.  The definition of “revolution”:

A far-reaching and drastic change, especially in ideas, methods, etc.

We want to inspire people to take ownership of their health: to promote and embrace wellness BEFORE a major diagnosis. To switch focus from getting well to being well. To make major diagnoses the exception rather than the norm.

We all know the stats.  We all know the problem. Most people wait until they are sick before they focus on being well.  Team Ditch the Belly wants to be part of the solution.

We are starting to gain momentum.

We have had amazing success stories come out of our Challenge Groups.  We have the best fitness programs and nutritionals in our toolkit.  For a lot of people, this system of fitness + nutrition + support is the path to their personal wellness.  The path to taking ownership of their health; it certainly was for my brother and me.  And we believe we can help thousands of others with this same method.

But we want to spark a REVOLUTION in our community, city, state and country!

Not just our on-line social media community.  I believe there is a lot of good that comes from social media but I also believe it is killing our sense of community.  Being connected with your neighbors on-line is a far cry from reaching out, talking to people and interacting face to face.

Wellness Wednesdays launched!

That’s why I’m so excited about what happened last week.  Team Ditch the Belly partnered with our good friends at Playful Yoga who share our passion for helping people find their path to wellness.  We launched our Wellness Wednesdays program, which attracted a small but enthusiastic group of people.  People actually took time out of their busy lives to CONNECT and TALK and BRAINSTORM about coming together as a community and taking control of our wellness with educational events, workouts, yoga, healthy cooking classes, training for group 5Ks and so on.  We ended up with a great list of ideas we can do together, in-person and inspire change.  Not just change, but a revolution.
